The Pope Is Wrong On Condoms

Pope Benedict XVI was wrong when he said during this week trip to Africa that the HIV/AIDS epidemic cannot be resolved with the distribution of condoms, and that on the contrary, condoms increase the problem. I have seen many successful health and education programs of United Nations agencies around the World that stop the spreading of HIV/AIDS through the distribution of condoms to young men and women and educated them on the correct use to protect themselves from catching the epidemic. Condoms do not increase the problem of HIV/AIDS as the Pope had said. It is the technology that prevents people from dying of AIDS. Many people are alive today thanks to the correct use of condoms and the practicing of safe-sex. The Pope should not mislead people by talking about the things that he does not have experience of or knowing much about. Prevention and Protection of HIV/AIDS epidemic should be left under the authority of the health professionals and to the people themselves. Religious leaders do not have authority on health issues. I recommend that the Pope gets more accurate information on the prevention of HIV/AIDS from experts of the World Health Organization before he talks next time with the media on this matter. The archaic policy of the Catholic Church on the issues of human sexuality should be modernized to catch up with the fast changing speed of life in the World that we now live in. The Pope has the authority over his church to change that.
